Post punk is a genre of music that is strongly inspired from the soviet post-era, taking from the punchy area of punk and remaking it according to a more modern way of interpreting music. It incorporates a lot of synth-produced and guitar sounds, combined usually with a very repetitive and robotic drum machine.This is not only a genre of music, but a mentality, present especially among post-communist countries, which can really understand its sad, gloomy and sometimes dark tones. The style in general is lo-fi, self produced imagery, design and sounds. Inspired by this genre of music which I also produce in Romania under the name Stația Nouă (a play on words, it could mean ‘ninth station’ or ‘the new station’), I made the Station typeface, strongly based on past communist design, but giving it a more modern context. It is meant to transition to simplicity, repetitiveness, and to mimic the gloomy architecture of the post-soviet atmosphere.
